Polly Karpowicz is an association professional with 15+ years of experience in association management and has served as Director of Communications and Publishing at the American Political Science Association since 2004. She has been a member of the APSA staff since October 1996 and in a variety of capacities supported APSA’s initiatives on education and professional development, student outreach initiatives, minority programs, departmental and institutional membership, survey research, publisher relations, journals and publications, member communications, graphic design and marketing, and web development and programming.
She is an active member of American Society for Association Executives (ASAE) and the Greater Washington Society for Association Executives (GWSAE). She is also a member several scholarly publishing organizations including the Society for National Association Publishers (SNAP), the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP), and the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP). Most recently she served on the ASAE CAE Action Committee for a 3-year term.
Karpowicz holds an MBA degree from the University of Maryland and received a Bachelors degree in Political Science and History from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN. She also earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential from the CAE Commission of the American Society for Association Executives (ASAE) in 2008, and certificate in Private Community Engagement and Management for associations in 2013 led by Maddie Grant and Lindy Dryer of SocialFish and the ASAE.
Karpowicz also attends conferences, webinars and courses to keep up on trends in association management, scholarly publishing, web technology, social media, graphic design, and strategic membership communications.
